Salaries and Pending Liabilities of State Broadcasters Discussed in Standing Committee

Islamabad: The issue of delayed salaries and pensions of employees of state-owned broadcasting institutions came under discussion in a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee.

Committee member Senator Sehar Kamran inquired whether all dues had been cleared. Officials informed the committee that salaries and pensions had been paid up to 30 June 2025. However, liabilities worth Rs. 454 million were still outstanding.

The officials further stated that, on the directives of the Prime Minister, the Finance Division had decided to release Rs. 11 billion for the state television to overcome financial difficulties.

During the meeting, the controversy regarding the omission of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s photograph from Independence Day advertisements was also raised. Responding to the matter, Chairman PEMRA clarified that approval of advertisements does not fall within PEMRA’s jurisdiction, though complaints received in such cases are reviewed.
