Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to review the current situation of the cotton crop.
The meeting discussed the impact of recent large-scale floods on cotton production, possible shortages, and disruptions in the supply chain.
Discussions also focused on enhancing productivity, supporting farmers with improved inputs, and boosting exports under the government’s Agricultural Transformation Plan.
It was noted that serious challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, poor quality seed, pesticides, and outdated technology require urgent attention.
Senator Dar underlined the need for climate-smart agriculture, greater investment in research, and stronger coordination among the government, industry, and farmers.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Food, Finance & Commerce, and Planning, along with SAPMs Tariq Bajwa and Industries, Secretary Food, and senior officials from federal and provincial departments.
