Tahir Khokhar Calls for Long-Term, People-Centric Reforms to Pull the State Out of Crisis

Islamabad: President of Pasban-e-Watan Pakistan, Muhammad Tahir Khokhar, has said that to pull the state out of the current crisis and provide genuine relief to the people, an urgent, comprehensive, long-term, and people-centric policy is essential. Despite having abundant resources, the public remains trapped in a web of problems, which clearly indicates deep flaws within the system. Without addressing these serious issues, the dream of sustainable development cannot be achieved.

He noted that state institutions suffer not only from administrative weaknesses but also from the lack of effective long-term planning. As a result, the standard of living is continuously declining. Due to incompetence and negligence within institutions, decades-old problems remain unresolved, while development plans rarely move beyond paperwork.

Tahir Khokhar said that when people’s basic needs are unmet, the process of national development halts and society becomes restless. Citizens are facing intense psychological, economic, and social pressures. Unemployment is rising, youth are losing hope, and essential sectors such as education and healthcare are deteriorating. Basic facilities like water, electricity, gas, and roads are increasingly out of the reach of ordinary citizens. The current system functions like a “push-start engine” with neither direction nor steady pace.

He stressed that state institutions, bureaucracy, and the government must realise that they are servants of the people, not their masters. Modern governance, effective policymaking, and advanced planning have become necessary to safeguard the future of the nation. While the world is racing ahead in development, Pakistan is still struggling with basic administrative failures. If this situation persists, the journey toward progress will slow down even further.

Tahir Khokhar emphasized that the people of the state must receive their rightful due, all citizens should be equal before the law, and the state should advance in a way that ensures the prosperity of its people. A strong state is one in which the common man has easy access to justice, employment, healthcare, education, and other fundamental services.

He urged the government to implement economic reforms, improve institutional performance, modernize the state according to contemporary needs, highlight the potential of youth, empower women, and adopt a clear, transparent strategy to provide relief to citizens. If timely reforms and the right direction are not chosen today, future generations will suffer the same problems. Ensuring the state’s secure future requires unity, determination, and practical action—without which no meaningful change is possible.
