President Asif Ali Zardari Urges Unity and Service-Driven Politics in PPP Punjab Meeting

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari has called on leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Punjab to prioritize public service, unity, and long-term political strategy over the pursuit of power and ministerial positions, according to informed sources familiar with a recent consultative meeting.
During the discussion, Zardari underscored political discipline and resilience, telling party leaders that steadfast commitment to democratic processes and institutional strength remains essential for the party’s future. He stressed that service to the people must remain the PPP’s central mission, noting that meaningful political influence is rooted in sustained public trust rather than temporary authority.
The president also expressed concern over internal factionalism within the party’s Punjab chapter, describing divisions as a structural weakness that must be addressed to rebuild organizational strength. He commended Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider for efforts to reinforce the party’s presence in the province and maintain accessibility for party workers and leadership.
Reflecting on historical milestones, Zardari credited PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with laying the foundations of Pakistan’s nuclear capability, asserting that the achievement significantly strengthened national security compared with regional vulnerabilities faced by countries such as Nepal. He further highlighted development initiatives in Sindh, including canal paving and bridge construction through public-private partnerships over the past decade and a half.
Concluding his remarks, the president reiterated that durable political relevance depends on unity, patience, and consistent engagement with citizens, urging party leaders to deepen grassroots connections and focus on governance that directly benefits the public.
