ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the proposed reforms in Pakistan’s civil service, underscoring the urgent need to modernize the system and align it with global standards of public service delivery.
“The country’s civil service must be restructured to meet the demands of modern governance and integrated with advanced technologies,” the Prime Minister said, adding that revitalizing the bureaucracy is a national priority.
He emphasized that the civil service plays a pivotal role in the implementation of government policies across various ministries and departments, and that comprehensive reforms are essential to improve its performance.
The Prime Minister instructed that the process of reform should include the views of both government officials and public representatives to ensure inclusivity and effectiveness.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, briefed the Prime Minister on the proposed reforms, highlighting the need for major improvements in recruitment, promotions, training, and the overall institutional capacity of the civil service.
“There is ample room for improvement in the current system, especially in administrative structures and training mechanisms,” the briefing noted.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, and other senior government officials and stakeholders.
