Islamabad – On 14 August 2025, Pakistan celebrated 78 years of independence in an atmosphere charged with national pride, unity, and fresh confidence following a year of unprecedented military and diplomatic achievements.

The day commenced with a grand flag-hoisting ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other senior civil and military leaders. The national anthem resonated across the capital as the green and white flag soared high, symbolizing the resilience of the nation. Leaders paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and visionaries who laid the foundation of Pakistan.

In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the recent “Marka-e-Haq” triumph as a defining chapter in Pakistan’s history, one that deepened the meaning of freedom for future generations. He called upon all political parties and institutions to unite under the Charter for Stability of Pakistan to ensure lasting peace and progress. President Zardari, in his message, lauded the armed forces’ steadfast defense of the nation and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the people of Kashmir.

This year’s celebrations were particularly significant, coming just months after Pakistan’s decisive military response to Indian aggression. On 7 May 2025, India launched a series of missile, drone, and airstrikes targeting Pakistani territory. The attack, widely condemned both domestically and internationally, was met with an immediate and coordinated counter-operation—Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos. Pakistan’s Army, Navy, and Air Force executed a swift retaliation, dismantling key Indian military installations, radar systems, and ammunition depots. The Pakistan Air Force successfully downed several Indian fighter jets, including Rafales and Sukhois, while intercepting incoming threats with advanced air defense systems.

The operation was celebrated nationwide as a textbook example of modern warfare, showcasing the professionalism and courage of the armed forces. The government declared Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to honor the military’s service. Across the country, from Karachi to Gilgit-Baltistan, citizens held rallies, waved flags, and sang patriotic songs, turning the victory into a festival of unity. Field Marshal Asim Munir praised the people’s solidarity during the crisis and announced the establishment of the Army Rocket Force to strengthen Pakistan’s missile defense capabilities.

Messages of congratulations poured in from world leaders. The United States acknowledged Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism and expressed interest in expanding trade and investment in critical minerals and energy sectors. China reaffirmed its “ironclad friendship,” while Russia, Turkey, Germany, and France extended their best wishes and praised Pakistan’s strategic role in regional stability.

However, the celebrations were not without sorrow. In Karachi, aerial firing during festivities claimed three lives, including that of a child, and injured more than sixty people. Authorities urged citizens to avoid dangerous celebratory practices in the future. Meanwhile, security forces continued operations along the Afghan border, neutralizing militant threats to ensure the nation’s safety during the celebrations.

The night sky across Pakistan lit up with spectacular fireworks, illuminating a nation that has weathered challenges and emerged stronger. This Independence Day was not only a tribute to Pakistan’s founding but also a declaration that the country stands united, resilient, and ready for the future.
