U.S. Immigration Numbers Witness Historic Decline

New Yark: For the first time in nearly half a century, the immigrant population in the United States has dropped significantly. A new Pew Research Center report reveals that the number of immigrants fell from 53.3 million in January 2025 to 51.9 million in June 2025.

This represents a decline of 1.4 million within six months, reversing decades of steady growth. The proportion of immigrants in the U.S. population also fell from 15.8% to 15.4%.

Experts attribute this decline to tougher immigration policies introduced by President Donald Trump’s administration during his second term. The report further highlights that over 750,000 immigrant workers have left the American workforce, sparking concerns over labor shortages and the long-term impact on key sectors of the economy.
