MUZAFFARABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Azad Kashmir and Pakistan chapter, has welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent statement that peace in South Asia and improved relations with India are impossible without a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
In a statement, APHC spokesperson Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said the Prime Minister’s stance truly represents the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He added that the statement is not only the voice of Kashmiris but also the only viable path toward peace and stability in the region.
Butt expressed hope that Pakistan will continue to strengthen its political, moral, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people and move toward practical assistance until the dispute is resolved in line with their aspirations.
He highlighted the grave situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, saying that despite India’s setback in “Operation Buniyān al-Marsūs,” the region remains under severe repression. He pointed to arbitrary arrests, extra-judicial killings, sealing of properties, and settlement of non-Kashmiri residents as part of India’s ongoing campaign to alter the demographic identity of the territory, in violation of international law and UN resolutions.
APHC urged the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the European Union, and global human rights bodies to take notice of India’s “illegal and inhumane actions” and to play an effective role in stopping them.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to continue the freedom struggle until the people of Jammu and Kashmir are able to determine their political future in accordance with their internationally recognized right to self-determination.
