Islamabad – A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety was held today in Committee Room No. 4 at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the convenorship of Senator Rubina Qaimkhani. The agenda centered on reviewing appointments, promotions, and policy matters within the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM).

The session was attended by Senator Jan Muhammad and Senator Dost Ali Jeesar, along with senior PBM officials. The Committee members voiced serious concerns regarding transparency, adherence to rules, and regional representation in PBM’s appointments and promotions.

Chairing the meeting, Senator Rubina Qaimkhani expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations offered by PBM representatives. She particularly highlighted irregularities in promotions made in Grades 16, 17, and 18, questioning whether due process had been observed. “PBM will run as per the rules, and we are here to ensure merit,” she emphasized.

The Committee also criticized the vacant post of Director Administration, urging PBM to address key administrative gaps. Senator Qaimkhani further drew attention to regional imbalances, especially concerning Balochistan, where several key PBM posts remain unfilled. She also questioned the misuse of funds, stating, “They bought goods in the name of Balochistan and gave money, but the region continues to be neglected.”

Echoing her concerns, Senator Jan Muhammad remarked, “You people take Balochistan very easy. What should be done to those who have been treated unfairly?” He alleged that PBM officials tend to favor their own circles in recruitment.

Senator Dost Ali Jeesar added that crucial positions must not remain vacant if PBM is to effectively deliver its welfare services. The Committee also raised questions about PBM’s internal inquiry mechanisms, with Senator Jan Muhammad asking, “When the Committee asked the question, which of your people did the investigation?”

The meeting concluded with the Committee directing PBM to submit a comprehensive report detailing all appointments, promotions, and vacant posts, emphasizing transparency, merit-based hiring, and equitable regional representation.
