An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Friday ordered the confiscation of the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport of Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, following her failure to appear before the court despite multiple summons in the November 26 PTI protest case.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued directives for the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Directorate of Immigration and Passports to ensure implementation, while also ordering the freezing of Aleema’s bank accounts. The court further directed the confiscation of the property of her guarantor, Umar Sharif.
The development comes two days after the same court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema for the fourth consecutive time due to her continued absence from case proceedings. The judge observed that Aleema remained active publicly yet avoided the courtroom.
Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah and ten other accused appeared during the hearing. However, Aleema had no legal representation present. The court adjourned the matter until October 27.
The case stems from the PTI protest held on November 26, 2024, when party workers entered Islamabad in violation of a ban on public assemblies and clashed with law enforcement personnel near D-Chowk. The demonstration was intended to pressure authorities to release Imran Khan, who has remained incarcerated since August 2023 in several cases involving allegations of corruption and terrorism.
### **Lahore Case Update**
Separately, an ATC in Lahore extended the interim bail of Aleema Khan and her sister Uzma Khan in a case concerning the alleged assault on police during the October 5 PTI protest. Presiding Judge Manzar Ali Gul directed the prosecution to conclude its arguments at the next hearing after granting the extension until December 5. Aleema attended the proceedings, while Uzma submitted a request for exemption from personal appearance.
