ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, has said that the development of modern civilizations depends on mastery of space technology, emphasizing that Pakistan is entering a new era of digital transformation through its E-Pakistan initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of high-speed internet and commercial satellite projects, Ahsan Iqbal said that in the Holy Quran, Muslims have been commanded to explore and conquer the universe. “Unfortunately, we made conquering mosques our religion, while others conquered the universe,” he remarked.
Highlighting Pakistan’s achievements in the space sector, the minister said that four satellites have been launched into orbit over the past two years, and Pakistan has now attained the capability to provide internet services through its own satellite. “We are laying the foundation for a digitally connected Pakistan by integrating fiber optics, 5G, and commercial satellites,” he added.
He stated that E-Pakistan aims to connect youth from every corner of the country with the global digital economy. “Our top priority is to ensure broadband access for every school and health center, paving the way for millions of new job opportunities for our young people,” he said.
Calling E-Pakistan the backbone of the modern digital economy, Ahsan Iqbal said that the internet is no longer just a means of communication but has become an essential infrastructure for production and innovation. He added that the government is committed to providing high-speed internet access to every citizen, with satellite internet playing a key role in connecting Pakistan’s remote and underserved regions.
The minister also announced that Pakistan’s first astronaut will travel into space in 2026, marking another milestone in the nation’s scientific progress. “E-Pakistan is not just a slogan but the foundation of a modern economy and governance system,” Ahsan Iqbal concluded.
