Islamabad: The Yunus Emre Institute, Turkiye’s leading cultural center in Pakistan, celebrated World Turkish Coffee Day at the National Press Club Islamabad on Friday. The event was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Turkiye and the National Press Club.

The ceremony was attended by an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including Turkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Irfan Naziroglu, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan, and Parliamentary Secretary for Culture and Heritage Ms. Farah Naz Akbar.

Welcoming the guests, the President of the National Press Club highlighted the cultural significance of Turkish coffee and its symbolic role in strengthening the historic friendship between Pakistan and Turkiye.

Prof. Dr. Halil Tokar (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), Turkiye Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute Pakistan, described Turkish coffee as a cultural legacy rather than a mere beverage. Quoting the famous Turkish proverb, “A cup of coffee is remembered for forty years,” he said the drink represents friendship, mutual respect, and enduring relations — values deeply reflected in Pakistan-Turkiye ties.

Renowned journalist and author Dr. Farooq Adil shared his early encounters with Turkish coffee and captivated the audience with anecdotes about the Turkish art of reading fortunes from coffee cups.

Addressing the gathering, Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz emphasized the need to officially celebrate World Turkish Coffee Day every year. PM Coordinator Rana Ehsan said the rich aroma and distinct flavor of Turkish coffee are iconic elements of Turkish culture, adding that cultural exchanges continue to bring the people of Pakistan and Turkiye closer. He also congratulated the organizers on hosting a successful event.

Ambassador Dr. Irfan Naziroglu delivered an insightful address on the historical evolution of Turkish coffee, its social role in Turkish society, and its contribution to strengthening cultural linkages between the two nations.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Senior Vice President of the National Press Club, Ehtesham-ul-Haq.

Guests later visited a Turkish photo exhibition and enjoyed freshly prepared authentic Turkish coffee, savoring its unique aroma and traditional flavor.
