Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Friday praised easypaisa’s successful completion of its first year as a digital bank, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy.

Addressing easypaisa digital bank’s annual stakeholder dinner in Islamabad, the minister said rapid digitization was aligning Pakistan’s economy with global standards and pointed to record growth in IT exports as a positive indicator. She also announced that Pakistan is fully prepared to launch 5G services next year.

During the event, easypaisa revealed that it processed more than 3.8 billion transactions in 2025, with a total value exceeding Rs 15 trillion in its first year of digital banking operations. The platform also announced a major initiative to enhance Pakistan’s global remittance and digital payments connectivity.

The ceremony was attended by federal ministers, policymakers, regulators, business leaders, and media representatives. Board Chairman Irfan Wahab Khan, Ant International President Douglas Feagin, and President and CEO Jahanzeb Khan hosted the gathering.

A key highlight was the launch of easypaisa’s partnership with Ant International’s WorldFirst platform, enabling customers to receive cross-border payments and remittances from over 100 countries in more than 100 currencies directly into their accounts. The initiative aims to support freelancers, exporters, and overseas Pakistanis while expanding beyond traditional remittance corridors.

Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani emphasized the importance of digital finance stakeholders in shaping informed policy and demonstrating the real-world benefits of a cashless economy.

According to easypaisa, digital transactions now contribute around 11 percent of Pakistan’s GDP, with the platform serving one in every five Pakistanis. Women make up 31 percent of its user base, highlighting the growing role of digital banking in financial inclusion.
