Mirpur: The Central President of Pasban-e-Watan Pakistan and former Minister for Tourism and Transport, Muhammad Tahir Khokhar, has strongly criticized the continued neglect of the affectees of the Mangla Dam Raising Project, stating that those who create obstacles for them or fail to resolve their legitimate issues are enemies of the country and the nation.
He said that mistreating people who have made sacrifices for national projects is equivalent to demoralizing the public and discouraging future generations from making sacrifices for the country. He termed the delay in resolving the resettlement issues of Mangla affectees as highly unfortunate and condemnable.
While speaking to a delegation of Mangla affectees, Tahir Khokhar demanded immediate government action for the provision of Sui gas, the rehabilitation of sub-families, and strict measures against the land and encroachment mafia. He stressed that administrative incompetence and lack of coordination among government institutions have worsened the situation and urged the government to take immediate notice.
He assured the affectees that Pasban-e-Watan Pakistan will raise their voice at every forum and will not abandon them. “The Mangla affectees are our benefactors, and living nations never forget their benefactors,” he said, adding that scarcity of resources should not be used as an excuse to deny their rights.
Tahir Khokhar further emphasized that WAPDA authorities must recognize the immense sacrifices made by the people of Mirpur and ensure that their legitimate demands are fulfilled without delay. He vowed to continue advocating for their rights at all levels.
He noted that the Mangla affectees sacrificed not only their homes but even the graves of their ancestors for the country’s future, development, and prosperity. “They are not helpless or abandoned. They have given everything for the nation, and injustice towards them will not be tolerated,” he said. Reaffirming his commitment, he declared that Pasban-e-Watan Pakistan stands firmly with the Mangla Dam affectees and will continue to be their voice and defender.
