BAGH: Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan has reaffirmed that the development, prosperity, and public welfare of Bagh remain his top priority, stating that sincere and honest leadership can transform the district into a model of progress.
Addressing a grand workers’ joining convention at Imamia Colony, Bagh, he said that while he always regarded Sardar Mir Akbar Khan as an elder brother, he regretted that Mir Akbar played a central role in conspiracies against his government alongside Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, and persistently opposed key development projects in the district.
Without naming him directly, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas criticized Mushtaq Minhas, stating that the same individual who once sought his inclusion in PML-N and offered to withdraw from elections is now campaigning against him. He said such elements have reduced politics to personal business interests. He also apologized to the people of Eastern Bagh for supporting Mir Akbar in the previous elections.
He praised Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan, calling him a true benefactor of the region, a symbol of honest politics, and a leader with a clear development vision. He said that the presence of Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan and Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar in the assembly could decisively change Bagh’s future.
He further alleged that Mayor Bagh, Major (R) Abdul Qayyum, repeatedly breached trust and pursued personal interests, expressing shock when a close associate of the mayor appeared against him in court. He added that the decision regarding the new mayor of Bagh would be made by Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas emphasized that politics must be rooted in service, dignity, and integrity, not personal gain. He said that despite conspiracies and legal pressure, he remained steadfast on the path of truth. Referring to the incident of Karbala, he said Imam Hussain (RA) stood firm against oppression, a lesson politicians must follow today.
He reiterated that PPP’s politics is based on practical service rather than slogans, pledging transformative initiatives in education, healthcare, employment, road infrastructure, and basic public services.
Former senior minister Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan, in his address, said that Allah restored his health so he could continue serving the people. He said that while he once stood alone, he now had the support of a strong leader like Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, expressing confidence that PPP would win the upcoming elections with a decisive majority.
Meanwhile, Minister for Public Works Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar said that development projects worth billions of rupees have already been launched in Bagh, focusing on education, health, infrastructure, and public welfare. He stated that if their performance does not surpass previous governments, he would quit politics. He added that PPP represents every oppressed segment of society and would end the 15-year deprivation of Eastern Bagh, predicting a two-thirds victory in the 2026 elections.
The grand convention was held under the chairmanship of Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan, with Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan attending as chief guest. He received a warm welcome on arrival.
The event was attended by Minister Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar, Chairman District Council Bagh Professor Sardar Muhammad Asif, elected local government representatives, party leaders, and a large number of workers. The gathering turned into a massive public rally.
During the convention, numerous political, tribal, legal, and social leaders from various union councils of District Bagh, along with their supporters, formally joined the Pakistan Peoples Party, resigning from their respective political affiliations. They were welcomed by party leadership with the presentation of party flags and congratulations.
