Islamabad: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar paid tribute to the courage, resilience, and leadership of women, stating that their determination continues to transform societies, strengthen communities, and inspire future generations.
He emphasized that women’s voices, talents, and aspirations are vital drivers of inclusive development, responsive governance, and sustainable peace. Pakistan, he said, remains firmly committed to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
Ishaq Dar noted that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees equality and protection against discrimination. As a State Party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Pakistan continues to pursue legislative, policy, and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening women’s participation and leadership in all sectors.
He further stated that Pakistan is proud to host the 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation this year, reflecting the country’s strong commitment to promoting women’s rights across the Islamic world and beyond.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan has developed a comprehensive framework to promote gender-sensitive legislation, oversight, and accountability. As a result, women are increasingly assuming leadership roles across political institutions, the executive, the judiciary, the civil service, the armed forces, non-governmental organizations, and the public and private corporate sectors. Pakistani women, he added, are also representing the country with distinction in diplomacy and international organizations.
He underscored that these achievements are supported by expanded legal protections, social safety net programs, financial inclusion initiatives, and dedicated programs aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs.
Ishaq Dar reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to advocate for the rights of women and girls globally, particularly the women of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have endured decades of occupation and human rights violations. He also expressed solidarity with the mothers and daughters of Palestine, who continue to face immense suffering and deprivation under ongoing aggression.
He said the struggles of these women and girls serve as a powerful reminder that women’s rights cannot be secured in isolation from justice, dignity, and peace.
