Islamabad: Pakistan has categorically rejected assertions made by the United States Director of National Intelligence regarding its missile capabilities, terming the claims unfounded and inconsistent with regional strategic realities.Responding to media queries, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tahir Andrabi, clarified that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are strictly defensive in nature. He underscored that the country’s missile programme is designed solely to safeguard national sovereignty and ensure peace and stability in South Asia. The spokesperson emphasised that Pakistan’s missile range remains well below intercontinental thresholds and is firmly anchored in the doctrine of credible minimum deterrence, particularly in the context of its security environment vis-à-vis India. In contrast, he noted that India’s development of long-range missile systems exceeding 12,000 kilometres reflects an expansion beyond regional security needs, raising legitimate concerns for neighbouring states and the wider international community.Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to responsible state conduct, the spokesperson highlighted Islamabad’s willingness to engage constructively with the United States on the basis of mutual respect, non-discrimination, and factual accuracy. He urged a more balanced and informed approach that takes into account the strategic dynamics of South Asia and contributes to the promotion of lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.
