ISLAMABAD: As the world observes Earth Hour 2026, Pakistan is emphasizing the urgent need for collective action to protect the environment. This year’s theme, “Give an Hour for Earth,” encourages citizens to pause and reflect on how everyday choices impact the planet while adopting practical measures to conserve energy and resources.
Despite contributing less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan remains highly vulnerable to climate change. Recent floods, heatwaves, and droughts have disrupted lives, agriculture, and infrastructure, highlighting the importance of climate-resilient planning and sustainable development.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to the Paris Agreement, with national policies focused on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, improved water management, and resilient urban development. Initiatives like the Upscaling Green Pakistan Programme, Living Indus, and Recharge Pakistan are expanding forest cover, restoring ecosystems, and strengthening community resilience to climate-related risks.
All Pakistanis are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights on the evening of March 28, 2026, as both a symbolic and practical step toward energy conservation and environmental protection.
