KABUL: Construction work has resumed on the remaining sections of the strategically important Jalalabad–Torkham Highway, a key infrastructure project designed to strengthen trade and transit connectivity between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Afghanistan Ministry of Public Works confirmed that the $13.26 million project involves the completion of the second lane of the 73-kilometre highway linking Jalalabad with the vital Torkham border crossing, one of the region’s busiest trade gateways.
Officials said the project is expected to be completed within 22 months. Once finished, the upgraded highway is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and significantly enhance the movement of goods and passengers across the border.
The corridor is regarded as a key strategic route for regional commerce, serving as a major link in cross-border trade and economic integration between the two neighboring countries.
