Islamabad – President of the Institute of Peace and Development (INSPAD) and former Human Rights Advisor, Dr. Sardar Muhammad Tahir Tabassum, has paid glowing tribute to veteran Kashmiri freedom leader Syed Ali Gillani Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary, vowing that the Kashmiri people will continue his mission until the dream of freedom is achieved.
Syed Ali Gillani embraced martyrdom on September 1, 2021, while under prolonged house arrest spanning over a decade. Dr. Tabassum hailed his lifelong struggle, unwavering ideological commitment to Pakistan, and sacrifice for the cause of Kashmir’s freedom. He also acknowledged the historic role of Kashmiri leaders including Ghazi-e-Millat Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, Mirwaiz Yousaf Shah, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, Khwaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and others whose contributions, he said, can never be forgotten.
Highlighting the sacrifices of Maqbool Butt Shaheed, Afzal Guru Shaheed, and Burhan Wani Shaheed, he said their martyrdoms injected new spirit into the freedom movement.
Appealing to the United Nations, OIC, and international human rights organizations, Dr. Tabassum urged them to ensure the unconditional release of Kashmiri leaders including Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Masarat Alam, Asia Andrabi, Zafar Akbar Butt, and Engineer Rashid, along with thousands of detained Kashmiri youth. He also demanded adequate medical facilities for imprisoned leaders.
He warned that after the abrogation of Kashmir’s special status, India has escalated atrocities, violence, and massacres in the occupied territory. The international community, he stressed, must take urgent notice of these grave human rights violations. He called upon Kashmiri diaspora organizations to unite and raise awareness globally about India’s brutalities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
