BRUSSELS; The European Union has called for maximum restraint and a renewed push for diplomacy amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, stressing the importance of strict compliance with international law.
Speaking at a press briefing in Brussels, European Commission foreign affairs spokesperson Anitta Hipper said diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the crisis.
She warned that any threats against critical civilian infrastructure could have serious humanitarian consequences and further destabilize the region.
Hipper reiterated the EU’s call for the protection of civilians and infrastructure, urging all parties to fully respect international humanitarian and international law.
The statement comes amid growing concern over escalating regional tensions, including remarks by Donald Trump indicating increased pressure on Iran regarding issues linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
