WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has downplayed the significance of ongoing U.S.–Iran negotiations, asserting that Washington has already secured a decisive strategic advantage regardless of any eventual agreement.
Speaking to reporters before departing the White House, Trump said the outcome of the talks—currently being facilitated by Pakistan—would not alter what he described as a clear U.S. victory.
“Whether we make a deal or not makes no difference to me. The reason is because we’ve won,” he stated.
The remarks come as diplomatic engagement between Washington and Iran continues, aimed at easing rising regional tensions. Trump described the negotiations as “very deep,” but emphasized that their outcome would not impact the United States’ strategic position.
“We’re in very deep negotiations with Iran. So we win regardless,” he added.
The U.S. president also made sweeping claims regarding Iran’s military capabilities, alleging that its naval forces had been significantly weakened, though he provided no supporting evidence. Iranian officials have yet to respond, and independent verification of the claims remains unavailable.
