Islamabad: On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, Pakistan reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the maintenance of international peace and security and to an effective, inclusive multilateral order, with the United Nations at its center. This day serves as an important reminder that dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter remain the only viable means of achieving sustainable peace. Pakistan calls upon the international community to fulfil its responsibilities by upholding the UN Charter, respecting international law, and pursuing the just and lasting settlement of disputes through peaceful means. As a long-standing and leading contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping operations, Pakistan’s enduring commitment to the maintenance of international peace and security is well established. Pakistan continues to advocate a comprehensive approach to the prevention and resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Its diplomatic initiatives in support of the pacific settlement of disputes, including mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, reflect this commitment. The unanimous adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2788, sponsored by Pakistan during its Presidency of the Council last year, represents an important reaffirmation of the Security Council’s resolve to strengthen mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes. Pakistan believes that unresolved disputes continue to fuel regional and international insecurity. Durable peace cannot be achieved when the right of peoples to self-determination is denied and UN Security Council resolutions remain unimplemented. This is particularly evident in situations of foreign occupation, including Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Pakistan stands ready to serve as a trusted partner in advancing our shared commitment to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous world.
