The Embassy of Cuba in Pakistan organised a special ceremony in Islamabad to celebrate Cuba’s National Culture Day, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage, arts, music and traditions.
The event was attended by cultural representatives, members of the Cuban community and Pakistani families with links to Cuba. The celebration also commemorated the centenary of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Cuba’s Ministry of Culture.
The programme featured an exhibition of Cuban paintings, books, musical instruments and traditional cuisine, alongside documentary material showcasing the country’s artistic and cultural heritage. A Cuban woman residing in Islamabad also recited poetry, adding to the cultural spirit of the gathering.
Addressing the participants, Cuban Ambassador to Pakistan Damián Cordero Torres thanked the guests and emphasised that culture was not merely a form of entertainment but a cornerstone of national identity, unity and continuity.
Highlighting Fidel Castro’s contribution to preserving Cuba’s cultural heritage, the ambassador stressed that culture played a vital role in safeguarding a nation’s identity and sustaining its traditions.
Referring to US sanctions against Cuba, Ambassador Cordero Torres said the country continued to promote art, culture and solidarity despite challenging circumstances. He maintained that Cuba posed no threat to the world and expressed concern over the restrictions imposed against the country.
The ceremony concluded with a collective rendition of the renowned Cuban song “Guantanamera,” bringing participants together in a celebration of cultural heritage and solidarity.
According to the Cuban Embassy, the event aimed to showcase Cuba’s national culture and artistic traditions while strengthening cultural ties and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Cuba.
