ISLAMABAD:
Muslim nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have strongly rejected Israel’s announcement recognizing the so-called “Somaliland” region, reaffirming their full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
In a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of more than 20 Muslim-majority countries, the ministers expressed their unequivocal opposition to Israel’s move announced on December 26, 2025, warning that it carries serious repercussions for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, with broader implications for international peace and security.
The statement said the decision reflects a blatant disregard for international law and was described as an unprecedented and dangerous step that undermines the foundations of the international order.
Strongly condemning the recognition, the ministers said it constitutes a grave violation of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, which clearly mandate respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of states. They added that such actions exemplify expansionist policies that threaten global stability.
Reaffirming their unwavering support for Somalia, the ministers categorically rejected any measures aimed at undermining Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity or sovereignty over its entire territory.
The statement further warned that recognizing parts of sovereign states sets a dangerous precedent, poses a serious threat to international peace and security, and directly contravenes the core principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The foreign ministers also firmly rejected any attempt to link Israel’s move to efforts aimed at the forcible displacement of the Palestinian people from their land, stressing that such attempts are unacceptable in all forms and rejected as a matter of principle.
The joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, The Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Yemen, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
