The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir has announced a series of protests and demonstrations on October 27 to mark Black Day, condemning India’s military intervention in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 and demanding the immediate realisation of the Kashmiri people’s inalienable right to self-determination.
The observance will extend across both sides of the Ceasefire Line, Pakistan’s four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and major international centres, including London, the United States, Canada, Germany and the Middle East.
Announcing the programme, PPP Central Deputy Secretary for Information and government spokesperson Shaukat Javed Mir told the media at the Muzaffarabad Press Club that October 27 symbolised a dark chapter in Kashmir’s history, when Indian troops entered the territory in 1947, setting the stage for a prolonged conflict and denying its people the opportunity to determine their political future.
He said the Kashmiri people continued to face severe repression, alleged human rights violations and restrictions on their fundamental freedoms under Indian rule. He also cited reports of unmarked graves and the continued deployment of a large Indian military presence as issues requiring serious international attention, arguing that these developments raised fundamental questions about India’s claims of democracy and secularism.
Mir reaffirmed the PPP’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people and expressed appreciation for the support extended by the people of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army and national security institutions to the Kashmir cause. He said the Kashmir dispute remained a key national concern and stressed that the struggle for the rights of the Kashmiri people must continue through political, diplomatic and peaceful means.
Paying tribute to former prime minister and PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mir recalled his historic resolve to continue the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom for a thousand years. He also referred to statements attributed to Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir regarding Pakistan’s determination to support the Kashmir cause, describing such commitments as significant in the historical narrative of the movement.
Mir said the PPP’s October 27 activities would include protest rallies, demonstrations and public gatherings aimed at mobilising public opinion and drawing international attention to the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He reiterated the party’s demand that the international community uphold the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and support the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Former acting AJK president and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Latif Akbar, AJK Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, legislators, party office-bearers and other senior leaders are expected to address gatherings in their respective districts and major cities, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Mir further said that, on the special instructions of senior PPP leader Chaudhry Riaz, the party would organise demonstrations in major international centres on the same day. Memoranda addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres would be submitted to highlight the Kashmir dispute and urge the United Nations to fulfil its responsibilities towards a peaceful and just resolution.
He said the PPP, under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chairperson of the party’s Political Affairs Committee Faryal Talpur, would continue its political struggle to protect national interests, uphold the country’s dignity, strengthen the federation and advance the aspirations of the people.
Mir concluded that Black Day was more than an annual commemoration; it was a renewed call to the international community to address the unresolved Kashmir dispute, uphold the principles of justice and self-determination, and ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir could freely determine their own future in accordance with internationally recognised commitments. headline 12 word ki ek sub headline aur 20 seo tags
